What are the hoods? And what is the purpose?

If you are going to place the feature outside, we recommend an outdoor hood cover to protect the electrical. The top of these units is open. We recommend an indoor hood cover if you are going to place the feature in a place (like a stairwell) where you can see into the top of the unit.
